Reading the launch

A language model has been handed a stack of 17th century letters written in mirrored abbreviations by men who called mercury 'the green lion.' It reports, with total confidence, a recipe for transmuting lead into gold that requires six weeks, a sealed glass egg, and patience the historians do not have. Archivists note the transcription is probably correct. Nobody has volunteered to test the second half.
